Plug & Prep exists to answer one question honestly: which mixer or bread machine should you actually buy?
Why this site exists
Shopping for a stand mixer or a bread machine is unusually frustrating. Every model looks capable in a product photo, the spec that actually predicts whether it will bog down on your dough is rarely on the box, and most "best of" lists read like they were written by someone who has never kneaded a loaf. We built Plug & Prep to be the opposite of that — a site that starts from how these machines actually work, matches them to what you bake, and shows you a live price so you know what you're really paying.
Who runs it
Plug & Prep is written and edited by Stephen V., an enthusiast who genuinely enjoys kitchen gear and home baking. That framing is deliberate and honest: he is not a chef, an appliance engineer or a "seasoned expert," and we're not going to invent a lab coat for him. What he does is read the manuals, compile the published specifications, do the wattage-to-dough math, and cite every source — the kind of homework you'd do yourself if you had the time.
We think that's a more useful and more honest foundation than a borrowed credential. The big publishers in this space have test kitchens and food-science advisors; we can't match that and we won't pretend to. Instead we compete on a published, reproducible method— which, it turns out, most of them don't publish in full.
What we don't do
- We don't run a testing lab, and we never write "in our testing."
- We don't invent prices, ratings, review counts, or specifications.
- We don't take payment for placement or accept free units from manufacturers.
- We don't let a commission rate change a ranking.
