Ever think about how something as simple as water could totally shape your habits?
This isn’t a lecture. It’s just a glimpse into why I only drink water — and how I’ve made it something I actually enjoy.
Why I Wrote This
Most people are surprised when I tell them I don’t drink anything but water. No coffee, no soda, no juice, no sparkling anything. Just water. And honestly? I love it.
Here’s the twist: when water is your only drink of choice, it starts to taste incredible. Clean, crisp, refreshing — like a little reset button every time. And the best part? It doesn’t take much to make water feel like a luxury. You just need the right setup.
Why I Only Drink Water
It started as a health thing, sure. I wanted to simplify what I was putting into my body and cut back on things that didn’t make me feel great. Over time, I just stopped craving anything else. No caffeine jitters, no sugar crashes, no guessing what was actually in what I was drinking. Water became the default.
But something else happened too. My taste buds adjusted. Suddenly I could tell the difference between cold fridge water and lukewarm tap. Filtered vs. not. Even the bottle I was using made a difference in how much I drank and how good it tasted. The more I leaned into water, the better it got.
A Great Water Bottle Goes a Long Way
You’d be surprised how much more you’ll drink water when you have a quality water bottle that you like. I personally went with the Yeti Rambler 26oz bottle with straw cap, because it’s simple. This water bottle provides great insulation, allowing your water and ice to stay cold longer. I prefer to use the straw cap but if that’s not your thing, they also make a Yeti Rambler 26oz with chug cap. Either way, these are built to last forever with proper care. I bought this one 2 years ago after buying my Tumbler over 8 years ago. Why? Because I wanted a water bottle with a straw but that cup is still in perfect condition. There are plenty of water bottles out there but this Yeti stands out as the best overall water bottle you can buy.
Filtered and Cold Makes a Difference
If your tap water doesn’t taste great, it’s going to be hard to make drinking more of it a habit. That’s where a decent filter comes in. I use a Brita Dispenser most days because it’s simple and affordable, but there are other options too — faucet filters, under-sink systems, or even filtered water bottles. The main thing is making sure the water you drink actually tastes clean. And the Brita dispenser definitely makes a big difference. It’s also large enough where you don’t have to keep refilling it so often as other pitchers are.
Temperature matters, too. I always prefer cold water. It’s more refreshing, and I find myself drinking more when it’s chilled. I keep my bottle in the fridge when I can or add a few ice cubes. That small step makes a big difference in how much I enjoy it.
The Habit Becomes Effortless
I always have my water bottle within reach. Whether I am working at my desk, keeping it on my nightstand while I am sleeping so I can have easy access in the morning, to even carrying it around in my car wherever I go. It becomes instinct to just order water when you are eating out too. The longer you go with just drinking water, the better it will taste.
What I Skip (and Don’t Miss)
No shade if you love your Starbucks or favorite fizzy drink, but I don’t miss any of it. I don’t do coffee runs. I don’t buy sugary drinks that leave me thirstier. I don’t mess with energy drinks or sodas that spike then crash my energy. And I definitely don’t keep cases of plastic water bottles at home because that is a total waste of money. I used to drink soda daily, until I realized it was simple, I don’t need it!
Choosing water by default isn’t about restriction. It’s about clarity. I know what I like, and I don’t need to add anything to it.
Final Thought: Water is the Ultimate Upgrade
Drinking only water isn’t boring. It’s clean. It’s intentional. And it’s probably the easiest health upgrade I’ve ever made.
If you’re trying to drink more water or just want it to taste better, start with your setup. A good bottle and filter combo might be all you need to enjoy something that’s already good for you.
